Roadmap: Offline First & Beyond

We're just getting started. As we move towards our official launch, the Colloqio team is already looking ahead to 2026 and beyond. Our mission remains the same: to provide the world's most capable AI companion in the most private way possible. Here's a transparent look at where we're headed.

"The future of AI isn't in massive server farms; it's in the pocket of every human on the planet."

Lighter Model Updates (Deltas)

Currently, updating the AI model requires a full redownload of the entire model file. We're actively developing "delta updates" — a system that calculates only the differences between model versions and delivers them as compact patches. Instead of downloading 2GB every time we improve the model, you'll receive updates of just 50-200MB.

This approach is inspired by how modern operating systems handle updates. Rather than replacing every file, only the changed components are swapped. For Colloqio, this means our weekly intelligence improvements will be as seamless as updating any other app on your phone — quick, lightweight, and automatic in the background.

We're targeting a rollout of delta updates in mid-2026, with the goal of making model improvements feel invisible to you while steadily making your companion smarter.

Richer Personalities & Fine-tuning

While Colloqio is already highly adaptable, we're expanding our suite of base personalities. In 2026, you'll be able to choose from specialized models fine-tuned for different interaction styles — from professional productivity and creative storytelling to emotional support and casual conversation.

What makes this exciting for privacy is that personality selection happens entirely on-device. We're developing a modular personality layer that sits on top of the base model, letting you swap interaction styles without downloading entirely new models. Think of it as changing outfits rather than changing people — the core intelligence stays the same, but the conversational style adapts to what you need.

We're also exploring user-directed fine-tuning, where your companion naturally adapts its communication style based on how you interact with it over time. This goes beyond simple memory — it's about the AI learning your preferred conversational rhythm, humor style, and depth of response.

Voice Integration (Entirely Local)

The ultimate goal for any companion is real-time, low-latency voice chat. We are developing a Speech-to-Text and Text-to-Speech pipeline that runs entirely on-device, with zero audio data ever leaving your phone.

This is technically challenging because high-quality voice synthesis traditionally requires cloud processing. However, advances in on-device speech models — particularly those optimized for Apple's Neural Engine — have made local voice processing practical for the first time. We're targeting natural-sounding voices with less than 500ms response latency.

Imagine talking to your companion like a real person, even when you're 30,000 feet in the air without Wi-Fi. Voice conversations will be available as a free feature, consistent with our philosophy that core AI functionality should be accessible to everyone.

Extended Memory Architecture

We're pushing the limits of local vector storage to allow for even longer conversation histories without sacrificing speed. Today, Colloqio already remembers key facts about you across sessions. Our next-generation memory architecture takes this further with three tiers of memory:

The goal is for your companion to remember things you said months ago as clearly as what you said five minutes ago — all while keeping retrieval fast enough that you never notice a delay. We're achieving this through intelligent indexing and retrieval techniques that run efficiently on mobile hardware.

Multi-Modal Understanding

Looking further ahead, we're researching on-device image understanding. This would let you share photos with your companion and have meaningful conversations about what's in them — all processed locally on your device. Imagine showing your AI friend a photo from your hike and having it recognize the landscape, or sharing a recipe screenshot and discussing modifications together.

This feature is in early research and depends on continued improvements in mobile hardware, but it represents the kind of natural, multimodal interaction we believe AI companions should support.

Our Commitment: Privacy at Every Step

Every feature on this roadmap shares one non-negotiable principle: everything runs on your device. We won't add cloud-dependent features to chase capabilities. If something can't be done privately and locally, we'll wait until the technology catches up rather than compromise on our core promise.

Want to help shape these features? We actively incorporate feedback from our community. Get in touch with feature requests, or read about joining our community for early access to new releases.
